2 HOLE IN ONE IN ONE ROUND!
Two holes in one in one round of golf.
Most golfers go their whole lives without making an ace.
A golfer from Cottrell Park Golf Resort, in St Nicholas, Cardiff, pulled off a golfing miracle – when he carded TWO holes-in-one during the same round.
With odds calculated at around 160 million-to-one, it’s no wonder John Wilson was left stunned by his achievement on 16th July 2022.
Playing off a handicap index of 18.6 on the Button Gwinnett Course, John, who will soon be celebrating his 69th birthday and has just recovered from Mouth Cancer, aced the 143-yard 2nd hole and then the 162-yard off the 16th hole. He used an 8 Iron on the 2nd and a 7 Iron on the 16th.
After speaking to John, a few days after his round, he still can’t quite believe it!
“I’ve recently recovered from cancer and had 2 hip replacements. Having a break from golf over COVID, I was excited to re-join back at Cottrell Park, and get my golf back swinging. My brother, Terry Wilson, who passed away 2 years ago, was mine and my sons role model to start golfing in the first place”.
“After achieving my first ever hole in one on the 2nd hole, I was ready to walk off and celebrate. I knew my brother was looking down and encouraging me to play on, so I had a gut feeling that I was going to get another one that day. I told my playing partners, Kristian, and Justin I was going to get another hole in one on the 16th, and they just laughed”.
“As we walked up to the 16th tee, I shot last. As soon as I hit the tee, I knew straight away it was going in. Walking up to the green, and seeing the ball in the hole, was the greatest feeling in the world, and I was very overwhelmed with the cheering and celebrating from the golfers around us”.
“Once we got back into the clubhouse, and word had spread, I celebrated with a couple of beers, and brought a bottle of whisky to toast to my brother, Terry, who made this happen. It’s a moment in my life I will never forget”.
After his round, John posed for pictures with his playing partners. His Son Kristian, and friend Justin Williams who are both members alongside John at Cottrell Park.
